New book by Mikhail Gorbachev published in Germany

The book is based on conversations between Franz Alt and Mikhail Gorbachev. Their most recent meeting took place on a cold dull autumn day in 2016, in Moscow. As Franz Alt wrote in his preface to the book, “A chilly Moscow weather was very much like the current frost in relations between Russia and the West. However, Mikhail Gorbachev is still assertive: he talks about opportunities for rapprochement, recalling that even during the Cold War 30years back, rapprochement and disarmament became possible through mutual trust… We need to show patience. I am waiting for both sides to show it. Right now we all are making mistakes…”

 

“His answers to my questions are a new appeal to make tomorrow's world a better place. And this appeal comes at a time when global politics are hardly bound by any rules, when a new cold war is looming and even a real, hot war seems possible,” MrAlt wrote.

 

A Russian language edition of the book is also ready for launch. In early February, it will be published on the Internet, to be subsequently released in paper format, along with editions in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Arabic.
