Petro Poroshenko’s victory is the best, not the worst outcome of the presidential election in Ukraine, Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the Soviet Union, told the Russian News Service.
“He will face a very challenging situation and he has my sympathy,” the political reformer added.
Mikhail Gorbachev believes Petro Poroshenko will be up to the task.
“He said that relations with Russia should be mended and that his meetings with Putin had left a positive impression. We need to rebuild our relations once and for all;” the ex-President of the Soviet Union summed up.
Billionaire Petro Poroshenko was elected President of Ukraine in the early presidential election held on May 25, with approximately 54.22% of the vote. Yulia Tymoshenko won 13% of the vote, followed by Oleh Lyashko, leader of the Radical Party, with 8.43%, Anatoliy Hrytsenko, leader of the Civil Position political party, with 5.42%, and Serhiy Tyhypko, who got 5.27% of the vote.
