The Gorbachev Readings. Issue 9. Two Coups and the Collapse of the USSR. Moscow, 2011
The book published herein is devoted to two events associated with the destiny of the Soviet Union. The authors made an attempt to expose the root causes of historical, economic and
especially of political processes that resulted in the disintegration of the USSR.
There was a lot of discussion and misinterpretations in connection with these developments, particularly in connection with the 20th anniversary of the 1991 August coup and the Belovezh takeover in December 1991. The authors of the book did their best and offered their own vision of Perestroika and the 1991 events as supported by the documentary evidence, including the materials of the Gorbachev Foundation Archive. Individuality of authors is evident in various sections. Nevertheless, this is not a collection of articles but a collective work
