“The Gorbachev Readings” Project is devoted to the study of Russia’s contemporary history. “The Gorbachev Readings” is a discussion about the sources of democratic transformations in Russia and about their development, Russia’s changing position in the contemporary world and the formation of civil society. These discussions perform an enlightenment function, shape public opinion about historical significance of democratic changes ushered in by Perestroika and facilitate education about the findings of research in Russia and abroad.
Taking part in the Readings are researchers from Russia and from abroad, public figures, politicians, journalists. Discussion materials are placed on the Foundation’s Web site. The texts of presentations and articles by the participants in the Round Tables are published in the yearbooks “The Gorbachev Readings” (transcripts available in Russian only).
