The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all  faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.

Irina Virganskaya

Irina Virganskaya

Irina Virganskaya (Gorbacheva) is Vice-President of the Gorbachev Foundation; President of the Raisa Maximovna Club; has a PhD in Medical Sciences.

Born in the city of Stavropol in the family of Mikhail Gorbachev and Raisa Gorbachev. Having graduated from school with a gold medal, was admitted to Stavropol Medical University. After moving to Moscow together with her parents, continued her studies at the Pirogov Medical University. Graduated from the University in 1981; completed Postgraduate Studies at the same University in 1984. Carried out research in the area of medical demography; in 1985, defended her PhD thesis on male life expectancy in the USSR. In 1995, graduated from the International School of Business at the Academy of National Economy of the Russian Federation with a degree in Management.

Since 1995, has been working at the Gorbachev Foundation. In 1997-1999, was Vice-President of the Raisa Maximovna Club. Since 1999, Vice-President of the Gorbachev Foundation and President of the Raisa Maximovna Club.
