The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all  faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.

Round Table in Memory of Georgy Shakhnazarov

On May 19th, 2011, the Gorbachev Foundation hosted a Round Table commemorated to Georgy Khosroyevich Shakhnazarov (1924-2001), entitled Scientist, Politician, Citizen. The conference was organized by the International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Stuides (the Gorbachev Foundation), the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Russian Political Science Association.

The round table was moderated by Olga Zdravomyslova, Executive Director of the Gorbachev Foundation. The speakers at the conference, among which were late Georgy Shakhnazarov’s close friends and former colleagues, shared recollections about this remarkable person, emphasizing his contribution to the development of Russian political science.

The round table participants included Karen Shaknazarov (Mosfilm Executive Manager and film director), Anatoly Chernyayev (historian and political scientist, the Gorbachev Foundation), Yury Krasin (political scientist, the Gorbachev Foundation), Vadim Medvedev (corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences), William Smirnov (chief of political studies section, the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Oksana Gaman-Golutvina (President of the Russian Political Science Association), Jeremy Stone (former president of the Federation of American Scientists, U.S.)

Oksana Gaman-Golutvina, President of the Russian Political Science Association, announced at the conference about the establishment of the Shakhnazarov medal to be given annually for the outstanding achievements in the national political science.
