The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all  faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.

Russian edition launch of Superpower Illusions, a new book by Jack Matlock, held at the Gorbachev Foundation

Russian edition launch of Superpower Illusions, a new book by Jack Matlock, a prominent career diplomat and U.S. Ambassador to the USSR in 1987-1991, was held at the Gorbachev Foundation on 11 November 2011, at the end of the Conference devoted to the 20th anniversary since the break-up of the Soviet Union. The Russian translation of the book was published this year by Mezhdunarodnye Otnosheniya publishing house. Speakers included: Ambassador Matlock, historian and political scientist William Taubman (USA), the book’s translators Pavel Palazhchenko and Tatiana Kudryavtseva, and head of the publishing house, Boris Likhachev.

Pavel Palazhchenko was moderator at the book launch.

Ambassador Matlock’s book deals with some of the key issues in the U.S. post-Cold War foreign policies, presenting a profound and highly critical analysis of the fundamentally wrong course the author believes the United States has taken in key areas of international affairs.

Russia and U.S.-Russian relations feature prominently in the book. The sober and incisive mind of a seasoned career diplomat and researcher shows in the way Russia is presented to the reader: such level of respect and insight can hardly be found even in the books by Russian writers.

The book will definitely be a good reading both for experts and all those who are concerned with Russia’s future and her international environment.
