The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all  faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.

Gorbachev suggests Kohl for Peace Prize

The former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has recommended that former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Gorbachev, who introduced 'perestroika' and 'glasnost' to the Soviet Union in the mid-1980's, wrote a letter to the Nobel committee in Oslo. He said that Kohl played a "central role in the peaceful shaping of epochal events". Gorbachev himself won the prize in 1990.
