The XXI century will be a сentury either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all  faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice, in making the XXI century a century of a new human renaissance.

New book “Mikhail Gorbachev and the German Problem” comes out of print

The Gorbachev Foundation has published a new book titled “Mikhail Gorbachev and the German Problem” (Ves Mir Publishers, 2006, 696 pages).
The unification of Germany marked the end of the Cold War and radically changed the face of Europe. This event still remains a major factor in modern international politics and is of great significance to the development of relations between Germany and Russia.
The new book is a collection of documents from 1986 – 1991. These materials give an insight into the role Mikhail Gorbachev, who was at the time the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee and later the President of the USSR, played in the process of achieving unification of the German state. Most of the documents, which include records of Gorbachev’s talks with German politicians, leaders of the world powers, letters, memos by members of Gorbachev’s staff, and records of discussions of the German problem at the meetings of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee, have been published for the first time.
Experts of the Gorbachev Foundation who prepared the book for publication include Professor Anatoly Chernyayev, who in 1986-1991 worked as Assistant to the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, and prominent historian and political scientist Professor Aleksandr Galkin.
Additional information about the book can be found at the publishers’ official Web-site at    http://www.vesmirbooks.ru/index.html?url=_1_3_4&id=500033.
